Senator Gillibrand On DADT

According to Pam's House Blend blog, New York U. S. Sentor Kirsten Gillibrand is now saying there will be no vote on the DADT "compromise" until after the mid term elections. However, pushing the vote off until the lame duck session it seems to me will make it even harder to muster enough votes to break a filibuster of even the weak compromise bill, which as we know, is NOT repeal of DADT. With conservative Dems like Nelson and even Webb having stated their opposition to the compromise bill, where will the 60 votes to pass it come from in the Senate? IF the Republicans gain senate seats in the mid term elections, which is likely, that will strengthen the opposition to passing even the crappy compromise DADT bill in the senate. I like Gillibrand, but let's wake up here. We're being jagged around once again. How can she really believe the scenario she is selling us?

Obama's Opposition To Marriage Equality

The pundits are correct: Obama is trying to have it both ways, saying he opposes same sex marriage but also opposes Proposition 8. This is nothing more than cheap politics at the expense of the gay community. Same sex partners can legally marry in four states and thge District of Columbia, but Obama opposes their marriages. This is outrageous. The gay community should reject Obama's duplicity outright and refuse to support his re-election until he fully embraces marriage equality.

This is one of Dan's paintings. He is exhibiting some of his works this weekend at the Point Of Woods Art Show on FIre Island.

Judge Walker And Obama

Our president taught constitutional law. He knows full well the truth of what Judge Walker so eloquently laid out in his decision overturning Proposition 8: moral disapproval is not a basis on which rights can be denied to gay people. When will our president have the courage stand up for full equality for gays and lesbians?

Heads Up! Major Gay Rights Decision Today

The judge is set to issue his decision in the California Prop 8 court caqse today. This should be a day of triumph for justice and gay rights. However, no matter which way the decision goes, it will be appealed, and will eventually reach the US Supreme Court.
