Obama Still Choking On Marriage Equality

From the Huffington Post:
Interviews with more than a dozen party officials and activists reveal that despite widespread and growing support for marriage equality among Americans, the issue is still viewed as politically sensitive in the top ranks of the Democratic Party. While many high-profile figures have publicly advocated for including strong language in the platform, the Obama campaign and the allied Democratic National Committee are searching for ways to split the difference: showing support for equality but stopping short of a full-fledged endorsement.
Split the difference? Obama and top Democrats want to "split the difference" when it comes to my marriage to my husband? Yet, they expect my vote in November. I think I'll split the difference and vote Green Party, where there is unqualified support for my marriage.

Handel's Messiah At The Pa. Ballet

Yesterday we experienced the new Pennsylvania Ballet's "Messiah" at the Academy of Music. I thoroughly enjoyed this ambitious and unique dance setting of the entire oratorio. The performance lasted about 2-1/2 hours but was never boring, thanks to the combination of abstract and story ballet utilized by multiple choreographers. I'm not sure that attending future concert versions of Messiah can match yesterday's experience.

Santorum's War On Sex

Charles M. Blow in the New York Times:
James Madison, “Father of the Constitution” and fourth president of the United States, wrote in 1822 that: “Every new and successful example, therefore, of a perfect separation between the ecclesiastical and civil matters, is of importance; and I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in showing that religion and government will both exist in greater purity the less they are mixed together.” Santorum’s stances are not about our Constitution, but his. He views personal freedoms as a personal affront. His thinking exists in a pre-1960s era of aspirin-between-the-knees contraception and read-between-the-lines sexuality. The kind of conservatism that Santorum represents has been described as a war on women, but I would rephrase that. It’s a war on sex beyond the confines of traditional marriage and strict heterosexuality in which women, particularly poor ones, and gays, particularly open ones, are likely to suffer the greatest casualties.
