Bilbao And The Guggenheim Museum

Thursday, September 7: Bilbao has a fascinating old town, full of Gothic and Baroque churches, as well as the homes of wealthy 19th century industrialists in the major city of the Basque lands. But the most stunning attraction is Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum. It's much larger than anticipated, soars to the sky, and features large galleries. In addition to the permanent collection we saw an informative exhibit of Neo-Impressionism, Symbolism and Nabi prints. On the beautifully-landscaped grounds around the museum the star sculpture attraction is Jeff Koons' "Puppy," an over life-size canine covered with all sorts of flowers. - Dan
