Tuesday evening at 10:30 pm we boarded the Chopin Express train from Crakow to Budapest. The bunks in our sleeper compartment were long enough so that even Jim could stretch out his full 6'5"+ length. Though a bumpy ride and delayed a couple of hours, the train revealed local scenery and towns in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, at least in the morning after we rose and downed tea or coffee. Our transfer car in Budapest took us to the Amadeus Queen, home for the next week. Only a year old, the river boat is well-appointed and has a friendly staff. After unpacking, since the Fine Arts Museum was closed and we'd toured the other major city attractions in the Hungarian capital, we had a lavish and lengthy six course lunch at Gundel, the famed old restaurant near the zoo. Later, cocktails and dinner on the boat led to meeting other passengers and seeing our friends Geoffrey and Alan, from Kent, England. After dinner the Amadeus Queen took in the river passing beautifully lit night time Budapest. - Dan
