We had a lovely dinner out at Philadelphia's White Dog Cafe with friend Richard to celebrate Dan's birthday. It was a festive evening indeed!

Frozen River

The Schuylkill looks pretty with a snow cover over the frozen water. Hopefully, we'll get some warm up this weekend.

Obama Still Won't Use His Power For GLBTQ Justice

Sad that this president chokes when it comes to standing with GLBT people! New York Times:
...he left out an executive ban on discrimination by contractors against employees based on sexual orientation and gender identity. That would have made a strong statement about fairness in spending taxpayer money.

Bald Eagle In Fairmount Park!

This is only a crappy cell phone photo, but during my morning walk today I joined some others who were watching a bald eagle high up in a tree above Kelly Drive in Fairmount Park. What an amazing sight it was!

Our dear friends Rick and Mark sent us a beautiful bouquet for our January birthdays. Dan's birthday is tomorrow.

Harbinger of Spring

Shorts and warm weather tops look pretty good about now. Macy's downtown Philadelphia men's store at least offers some hope in the midst of the current deep freeze.

13-1/2" Snowstorm Plus 5 Degrees and Wind!

Yesterday we had our third snowstorm of the winter greater than 6 inches. We have never had three such storms before February 1 before, according to local weather authorities.

Birthday Festivities

Dan and I had lunch at Cafe XIX, and friends Patrick and Cindy joined us for dinner out at Sagami restaurant in New Jersey for my birthday.

Birthday Perks!

$10 worth of Godiva chocolates and a $5 Starbucks latte for free, and my brand new ride the Philly transit system free pass! How great is that?

Birthday Fun!

Well, my 65th birthday, today will be a fun day for me. Dan gave me some nice gifts including two new sweater-tops, and a train book. We'll have lunch together downtown after I enjoy the Wanamaker organ concert. I get a free large special coffee from Starbucks from my birthday and a $10 free gift from Godiva...these I'll get when I go downtown. I will also sign up for my free senior citizen transit pass, and later some other friends are taking me out to dinner at Sagami, my favorite japanese restaurant. So it will be a wonderful day!

The Deep Freeze

So who ordered this "polar vortex?"

I walked for an hour this morning with our dig Bradley. It was 8 degrees with a wind chill below zero. Bradley didn't seem to mind it. I was ok only because of the layered clothing, down parka, and face mask I was wearing.

Holiday Cookies

Well, I'm a little late with them this year...

Supreme Disappointment...Hopefully Temporary

The U.S. Supreme Court stay which halts marriage equality in Utah is pending the outcome of the 10th circuit appeal, which judges there have already indicated will favor marriage equality(they denied the stay based in part on their belief that the state would NOT prevail on the merits.) Then we will see if the Supreme Court will even hear the further appeal (grant cert)...and I bet they will not, which will mean marriage equality will return to Utah, one more state, while the battle continues to play out in other states.

Snowing At Sea!

Another Google-enhanced photo that I took at sea on board the Queen Mary 2 last month.

London: Somerset House In The Snow

I keep finding out new things about Google...today I see that they took some of my recent photos and turned them into animated gifs of snow scenes. When we were in London we walked across the Waterloo Bridge from the South Bank to Somerset House, a large palace that now houses the Courtold institute, home to much great art. I took this photo, but it wasn't snowing at the time. But thanks to Google, it's snowing there now!

Thinking Warm Thoughts While IT's Frigid Outside

We'll be visiting lovely St. Barths once again if we make it through January and February and all of this extreme cold and snow. We'll be there for Mardi Gras once again, and that will be fun. The parade is very colorful. It's nice to daydream about Barths as long as we are virtually house bound due to the recent storm.

Snowy Streets

13th & Market, downtown Philadelphia...so cold that the snow isn't going anywhere.

Snow Day!

Bradley and I went out at about 5:30 AM. It looks like we got maybe 6" inches of snow. It's still snowing lightly and there are strong winds, so we have some drifts. Photo: Wintery display, Suburban Station, Philadelphia
