Scuba Diving St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

Friday we visited St. Thomas, USVI. Dan took an island tour with friends while Jim went scuba diving. It was our last land port for this cruise and we left for our three day voyage to Brooklyn Friday evening. Jim took these photos while diving on Friday.

The St. Kitts Railway

St. Kitts is another beautiful tropical island. The island has a long history of British and French colonization and only got its independence very recently. Unique to the island is a 32 mile long narrow gauge railway that was built to allow the transport of sugar cane. Now the railway is used for tourism. Dan and I enjoyed a two hour 18 mile long journey on the railroad on Thursday.

Views Of Dominica

The lush tropical island of Dominica, our port of call on Wednesday 12/28/16, is the southern-most destination on our cruise. Dan and I visited the island a couple of years ago, and Dan did a tour then while Jim went scuba diving. Therefore, on this visit we elected to spend a relaxing day on board the QM2. These photos were taken from the ship and show the town of Roseau. It is a pretty island, but poor in comparison to other Caribbean spots. Today we will make our first ever visit to the island of St. Kitts.

Scuba Fun In Tortola

On Tuesday the QM2 visited the British Virgin Island Tortola docking in the capital city Road Town. Dan went on an afternoon tour of the mountainous island while Jim completed two exciting scuba dives on the famous RMS Rhone, a large steamship that sunk in 1867 during a hurricane.

Visiting Sunny St. Maarten

On Monday 12/26 the QM2 docked in Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The weather was beautiful, sunny and in the 80s with a nice island breeze. Jim spent the morning snorkeling and airplane watching at Maho Bay Beach, where aircraft take off and land just over the heads of those on the beach. Dan worked on a watercolor painting in the morning. In the afternoon we walked through the town with our friend Franklin from Baltimore. Philipsburg is a shopper's delight but we did not find any bargains in the jewelery stores we visited. Today we'll be in Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands, where Jim is scheduled to go scuba diving while Dan will be touring the island.
