Over The Rainbow In St. Barths

What a relief to be rid of the cold at least for a few days. We had a nice flight down to St. Maarten, then a short hop over to St. Barths, picked up our rental car, drove to our villa, did some unpacking and unwinding, and then it was out to dinner at one of our all time favorite restuarants on the island: Wall House. A complimentary glass of vanilla rum after dinner helped us to finish off the day!

Spring Break!

Headed to St. Barths!

Virginia Same-Sex Marriage Ban Declared Unconstitutional

“Our Constitution declares that ‘all men’ are created equal,” wrote Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen of United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, in Norfolk. “Surely this means all of us.” “We have arrived upon another moment in history when We the People becomes more inclusive, and our freedom more perfect.”

Another Major Snowstorm!

The Philadelphia area is supposed to get between 12 and 18 inches total of snow this time around. So far we have probably about a foot. Right now it's raining, but its; supposed to get colder and start snowing once again tonight. Ugh!

Exciting Afternoon At The Ballet

The New York City ballet program that we enjoyed Sunday afternoon included Jerome Robbins' "Dances At A Gathering" set to the piano music of Chopin, as well as George Balanchine's entertaining "Union Jack" ballet, from 1976. The afternoon was part in tribute to a retiring ballerina, Jenifer Ringer, and these quite showy retirements are always special and touching. Ms. Ringer was clearly a favorite among her company colleagues as well as the audience.

The Winter From Hell

Just when you thought winter couldn't get any worse, it does. When I tried to take Bradley out early this morning I couldn't get past the front steps due to ice everywhere. Finally around 8:30 AM I was able to drive Dan to Community College so he could teach and then take Braddy to the park in the way back home, but this is NO FUN!

1938 Redux: The Sochi Olympics

The Today Show has started live coverage of the winter Olympics from Sochi. However, I don't feel much like watching. In Russia, it is now illegal to "propagandize" homosexuality, providing the justification for violence against gays and the killing of gay people, all of which has already occurred. It's too easy to simply blame Putin & co., particularly when NBC and Coca-Cola ignore what is happening to gay people in Russia with their blind participation in and sponsorship of the Sochi Olympics. Did the people who run these corporations learn nothing from the specter of the Olympics of 1938 and the horrible events that unfolded so soon after? I read recently that the Sochi games are the last Olympics that will ever be held in a country with such anti-gay laws, but I'm not so sure.

Barnes Foundation Visit

Friday we visited the Barnes Foundation and had lunch in the museum's Garden Restaurant. We enjoyed seeing the art and the new architecture that houses the collection.
