Our New Puppy And The Work Being Done By Responsible Rescues
Today we picked up our new little puppy, a lab mix, who was picked up as a stray in Cleveland, Alabama. Her name is Katie, and she came up with about 50 other dogs in an overnight transport vehicle from Alabama. Our poor little girl is showing signs of shock and trauma from what she has experienced. At her young age, 12 weeks, she has no doubt been through so much more than any poor little baby dog should ever have to endure. We've done our best to comfort and reassure her, but it will take time for her to adjust and gain confidence. The rescue workers explained that in the South dogs are not spayed or neutered resulting in many unwanted puppies and a high mortality rate for dogs in
"high kill" shelters. Our rescue is based in Pennsylvania and works with volunteers in Alabama to save as many dogs as they can. One of the toughest jobs for rescue volunteers on site in Alabama is visiting the shelters and selecting the best candidates for rescue knowing that the dogs they leave behind are doomed. It's a heartbreaking reality, and today's adoption transfer was emotional as the lucky dogs who were rescued met their new families.

A Sad Goodbye To A Nice Puppy
Well, we had to surrender little Katie back to the rescue after a visit to the veterinarian...heartbreaking, but it turns out that she was just not the dog for us.

Almost Adopted A Sweet Puppy
Dan found this beautiful little female puppy yesterday in a Philly shelter. Today we went to meet her and we both loved her. But we were a day too late. Someone else already applied to adopt her. Hope she goes to a good home. |
