La Coruna, Northwest Spain

Friday, September 8: For our excursion today, we opted for the Chef's Market Discoveries. What was this? The top chef from our ship and a local guide took us through two local markets, where many on our excursion sampled meats and cheeses. The guide also showed us the main square and the town hall, a building in the "Beaux-Arts" style of the 19th century. Our tour culminated in a lunch of Galicia's culinary specialities, including mussels, roasted peppers, octopus and potatoes, and cheese, all accompanied by a pleasant Ribiero Spanish white wine. The adventure continued later with a special private chef-hosted dinner back on board our ship. In this elaborate multi-course dinner highlights included tortilla espanola, empanada, langostinos and an incredible paella. Our tablemates were lively, and all had a marvelous time. - Dan
