Dresden 6/18/18

Sunday we visited two of the city's great museums. First, at the amazing Baroque complex of the Zwinger, we saw the great collection of the Gemaldegalerie, with masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, Canaletto, Vermeer, Rembrandt, and many others. Then after looking at Meissen china in the porcelain collection, we had lunch at the Newmarket Square. After, we visited the Albertinum to see 19th century and 20th century paintings by Romantics like Friedrich and Expressionists like Kirchner. Jim suggested a trip outside of the city center to ride the suspension railway or Schwebebahn. Scenery nearby, overlooking the Elbe river valley resembled that in the atmospheric landscapes of the German Romantic artists. For our last dinner in the Saxon capitak, we dined at Ogura in the Hilton Hotel. - Dan
